As the Clinical Preceptor, you’re the expert WOC nurse (or sub-specialty nurse) approved to accept responsibility for facilitating an appropriate, acceptable clinical experience for the Full Scope (WOC) or Partial Scope student.

The Full Scope webWOC Nursing Education
Program requires:


150 clinical hours of WOC Nursing, consisting of:
  50 hours for each individual clinical focus
wound, ostomy, continence).
    10 of every 50 hours (up to 30 hours total) may be in the
focus of foundations of professional practice. So a student
can spend extra time in the area requiring the most practice,
an area of special interest, or in observation of unique practices,
settings or procedures.

As the Clinical Preceptor for a webWOC Nursing Education Program learner, you must meet the established requirements as listed below. These requirements are consistent with international standards.

Hold a current license as a Registered Nurse.
Have received a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with a major in nursing, or a Bachelor’s Degree in another field with documentation of Bachelor’s Degree-level equivalent competency in:
  Nursing Health Assessment
  Community Health Nursing
  Nursing Leadership and Management
  Research and Statistics
Have graduated from an accredited WOC Nursing Education Program
Maintained current certification:
  Board Certified in tri-specialty as a CWOCN, or in a Partial Scope.
  Or, Certified through a national nursing organization or a national credentialing center.
Clinical Experience: At least two years of clinical experience in the specialty, with one year of experience after certification.
Teaching Experience: Evidence of teaching experience beyond patient teaching, OR completion of a formal preceptor preparation program/seminar to include principles of adult learning, clinical teaching strategies and clinical evaluation methodology.
Must be able to demonstrate adequate patient diversity,
complexity and volume.
Continence Preceptors who are WOCN certified may provide some continence experiences (i.e. acute care incontinence in hospital) and oversee experiences provided by a multidisciplinary group of care providers (e.g. biofeedback or biofeedback specialists).

Continence Preceptors: Alternative Care Providers
Alternative care providers may be utilized if the provider has a specialty practice in continence care (regardless of educational preparation). This would include a nurse, P.A. or M.D. These preceptors must be able to provide a comprehensive range of continence care - including behavioral interventions..
