The webWOC Nursing Education Program encourages you to take the Full Scope of practice to best maximize your career potential—and to better serve your patients’ needs. But you can also take individual courses specializing in wound, ostomy or continence. Graduate-level or continuing education credit is awarded for all coursework that is successfully completed.

Choose from Full Scope or Partial Scope Curriculum Options – so you can obtain the education that best meets your educational plan. Successful completion qualifies you for the national WOC Nursing Certification examinations.

Traditional Length Course
•   6-8 months to complete includes Foundations of WOC Nursing
• Skin and Wound Management
• Ostomies and Continent Diversions
• Bowel & Bladder Continence and a 150 hour clinical practicum
•   Complete the full scope of practice in the least amount of time online with the continuity of the same cohort of learners during the semester.
• More scheduled time with faculty and groups. There are 3 live classes per month: 2 optional and 1 required.
• Dual scopes can be taken in this format. However, check the dates in the course schedule.
• No travel requirement to campus.

Accelerated Single Scope Courses
8 weeks per Scope includes Foundations of WOC Nursing, one specialty scope of study (i.e. Skin and Wound Management) and 50 hours of practicum.
•   For learners with an urgent need for education and credentialing (e.g. a new position). This learner will study one scope and, upon successful completion, be eligible for a national certification exam.
• Another scope may be taken for learners who are already certified in a single scope.
• Optimum flexibility for the learner is offered in these course formats. There are 3 live classes over this 8-wk period.
• No travel requirement to campus.
Extended Courses 12 months to complete this Full Scope of Practice Program includes 150 hour practicum.
•   For Full Scope Learners who require a SELF-PACED approach to learning and increased time to complete.
• No travel requirement to campus.
Faculty Designed Independent Study Individualized assessment and learning experience. Length of time to complete is dependent upon the courses and learner knowledge base.
•   For the advanced learner where prior knowledge can be demonstrated.
•   A single, dual or full scope may be taken.
• No travel requirement to campus.

The webWOC Nursing Education Program makes it easy for you to receive a complete education on your own time. Accelerated courses offer 8-wks of focused learning to complete one scope of practice. There are only 3 live classes in this course design, so flexibility for the learner is high with this option. The extended correspondence courses are self-paced. Learners can take up to one year to complete this course option. The traditional, full scope program requires 1-2 semesters to complete, depending upon the learner’s schedule. For advanced learners or experienced practitioners, a faculty guided independent study (FDIS) is available. Assessment and approval from a Program Director is required for admission into this course.

Live classes are conducted in webcasts and offered once or several times a month depending upon the course. Varied learning strategies are utilized in these courses to make online learning rigorous, relevant to practice, interactive and fun. Learners are immersed in learning environments that stress:

•   Testing
•   Online tours to journals, manufacturer sites and simulations

Not only will you receive the best possible education with the webWOC Nursing Education Program, but you'll also receive an outstanding financial value.

 Tuition & Fees 
  • Application Fee: $20 (payable to Metropolitan State University) 
  • Non-Refundable Reservation Fee: $75 (payable to webWOC Nursing Education Program) 
  • Tuition: $440 per credit ($4400 for Full Scope curriculum) 
  • Text books: $200-$300 dependent upon courses taken 
  • Preceptor fees: If any, range from $50-$100 per day ($750-$2,000 total), and are negotiated by you with your preceptor. 
  •   Technology fee payable to webWOC Nursing Education Program – fees are based upon the courses for which the learner is registered.  The fees range between $100 and $250. 

Tuition is paid in full at the time of registration (before the semester begins). Metropolitan State University will accept a credit card for payment. Because of the already-low cost of the Program, a payment plan option is not available. However, you may have a chance to be awarded a scholarship or grant.

Scholarships are available through the WOCN Society (Wound Ostomy

We also encourage you to search online for grants that may be available through nonprofit organizations and foundations in your city and state. These grant providers may express an interest in supplying funds for nurses, continuing education, underserved populations, rural populations and more.
