COURSE DESCRIPTION:
|
This course prepares the learner for entry-level practice in the specialty of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) nursing. Emphasis is placed on foundational theory common to the wound, ostomy, and continence scopes of specialty practice, as well as practice development concepts. Learners who are new to WOC nursing, or who have limited experience in one or more specialty areas, should allow adequate time for study and review. Course content includes WOC nursing practice, history of the specialty, legal and ethical issues, marketing, role implementation, and professional growth, including certification and continuing education. Clinical topics include basic skin care and maintenance of skin health, comprehensive patient assessment, evidence-based practice, nutrition, moisture-associated skin damage, superficial mechanical skin injuries, patient education, and adaptation. |
