This course prepares learners for entry-level practice in the specialty of WOC Nursing. It focuses on both practice development materials and foundational clinical knowledge that span the scopes of WOC Nursing. Designed for novice nurses or those already relatively proficient in WOC Nursing, the topics are intended to be challenging. Key areas include developing a WOC Nursing practice, marketing, and role implementation, along with foundational knowledge such as the history of the specialty, legal and ethical considerations, and professional growth (e.g., WOCN® Society, certification). Clinical topics covered include comprehensive patient assessment, evidence-based practice, moisture-associated skin damage, education, and communication. Graduation requirements for becoming a WOC Specialty nurse include completing a clinical practicum (or simulation lab experience) and a final project—both of which are explored in this course.
