| COURSE DESCRIPTION: |
This course will address the immediate and long-term care of clients across the life span experiencing acute and chronic health concerns that result in urinary or fecal incontinence. Specifically, the learner will gain knowledge of etiology, differential diagnoses, clinical findings and nursing, medical and surgical management options for urinary and fecal incontinence. Emphasis will be placed on risk reduction, physical examination, physical assessment, diagnostic tests, behavioral interventions, environmental modifications, containment, skin protection, and interventions such as diet and fluid management, pelvic muscle rehabilitation, pessary placement, biofeedback, scheduled toileting programs, pharmacology, and surgery. |

| PURPOSE OF ACTIVITY: |
This course prepares the learner to provide evidence-based, collaborative continence care for clients across the lifespan by integrating knowledge of elimination dysfunction, assessment findings, risk reduction, diagnostic considerations, and nursing, medical, behavioral, and supportive management strategies. |
